Welcome to New Town Primary School

Welcome to New Town Primary School. We are situated approximately 4 kilometres north of the central business district of Hobart, in what is generally considered to be Hobart’s oldest suburb. It is our belief that the rights of children and young people are upheld in all that we do, particularly the right to an education, to influence decisions that affect them, and to be safe from harm (DECYP strategic Plan).

We offer learning programs from birth to grade six for approximately 320 students. Student learning is based on the Australian Curriculum and the Early Years Learning Framework.

Families who live in the catchment area for New Town are automatically able to enrol at New Town Primary School. In some instances, out of area enrolments can be considered – based on the DECYP Out of Area Enrolment Policy and Procedures. Grade six students generally go to Hobart City High School as it is the department feeder school for New Town Primary School students.

We encourage, model and explore the core values of Courage, Growth, Responsibility, Connection and Respect and these values underpin how we operate as a school community.

New Town Primary School has an active School Association which meets on the first Wednesday of each month at the school at 6:30pm. All parents of children at New Town Primary School automatically become members of the School Association.

Please contact with the school directly if you have further enquiries, our friendly admin staff, Kirsten and Ange will be happy to help.
